Goa archdiocese website launched
Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao launched the official website of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman at Bishop House on August 8. Archbishop Ferrao complimented the Diocesan Centre for Social Communication and Media and its members in striving to put up the website and said it would play an important role in communicating to the outside world about the Church and its activities. The website hosted by www.goacom.com will be updated from time to time. It will also contain information about the upcoming Exposition of St Francis Xavier. Fr Olavo Velho Pereira welcomed the gather. Fr Joaquim Loyola Pereira, Secretary to Archbishop, was also present. Check at http://www.archgoadaman.org/

Sky-bus trial successful
The much awaited trial turn of the Sky-Bus was conducted by the Konkan Railway Corporation in Margao on September 15. A large crowd had gathered to watch the movement of the two coaches coloured in green and white. The first trial run of the one-kilometre distance of the sky-bus metro project was completed successfully at a speed of 40 KMpH. Full speed trials, however, will take place by September end, according to KRC Managing Director B Rajaram. The Rs.50-crore test track is proposed to be a part of the future centre of excellence for testing and certifying various sub-systems of Sky Bus Metro.

Khorjuem-Aldona bridge opened
A state-of-the-art cable-stayed bridge across the Mapusa river, connecting Aldona and Khorjuem, is the first of its type in Goa and the fifth in the country. The beautiful and well-lit bridge is ready and will be officially inaugurated by the Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar next month. In the meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has already inaugurated it unofficially since it would come handy for the Ganesh Chathurthi festival which commences in Goa on September 18.

Acharya V/S Idisore in Poinguinim
It is expected to be a one-to-one battle royal in the Poinguinim constituency bye-election scheduled for October 13 between Jagidsh Acharya of the Congress Party and former MLA Isidore Fernandes, fielded by the BJP, in whose favour he resigned his Assembly seat and is seeking re-election. Though the MGP Minister Sudhin Dhavlikar does not appear to support Archarya the MGP party itself along with Dr Wilfred de Souza’s NCP and the UGDP have shown their willingness to back the Congress candidate to defeat Fernandes by all means.

Secretariat to be converted into museum
A committee constituted by the government for conservation of the Adil Shah Palace recently decided to invite public suggestions within a month, for the reuse of the building. Archives minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that the committee members felt that suggestions be sought from the public and heritage lovers after it was decided to use the building – Palacio Idalcao – as a museum through the ages.
